Pedernales Falls State Park

So the next morning after the long night of partying on the beach we decided to drive to Austin to go camp out in Pedernales Falls. Its about 30 minutes outside of the city and i was really surprised how awesome it was. We decided to primitive camp which is hiking to your camp spot. I've never done anything like that before and it was a really good expierence. After making camp the five of us in our group decided to head out and explore the surrounding area. We found the Pedernales River and did a little swimming, and when i say a little i mean, Nick went swimming in the two feet of water in the rappids. It was strating to get dark and we headed back to camp and did the usuall camping thing food, cards, beer, and good conversation. I had no tent so i slept outside, and the stars were amazing. The next morning we did some more exploring and even checked out the actuall falls.

Galveston, TX

Galveston is a really cool little town. Its an island that has plenty of cool shops along the sea wall and beaches for miles. Nick and I arrived in Galveston around noon on 4/9/2011 and went straight to the local skate park for a little sesh. After a few hours of working up a good sweat, we headed to the beach where we swam and hung out for awhile. Nick knew of a place along the sea wall that was a good skating spot. Supposedly a short sidewalk that used the actual sea wall as a quaterpipe. To our surprise the sidewalk was buried in sand and there was no way we were gonna skate it. Instead of finding a good skate spot we spotted some really cute girls down the beach a little ways drinking what looked like beers. We started talking and one thing lead to another and in a few short hours Nick and I were trashed. How lucky right?? It was about seven now and the girls had to go, we said our goodbyes, traded numbers and parted ways. The whole point of coming to Galveston was to meet some of Nicks friends to camp and have a good time on the beach. It was Nick's friend Phillip birthday, and so we met our carvan and found a good spot on the beach to set up camp. It was a good night, and an awesome day. If you are ever close drop by Galveston for the day you wont regret it.

First Leg: Phoenix to Houston

Total time: 22 hours

Let me just tell you, driving from Phoenix to Houston isn't the most fun you will ever have. We left my house in Phoenix around 10:30 and jumped onto the I-10. Unfortunately the ten goes all the way across the country so its quite boring. Nick and I took turns in 3 hour shifts so that we could always have fresh eyes on the road. We stopped five times to refill our 30+ gallon tank which came to a grand total of $381.04. Besides the gas stops we stopped two additional times. The first to have dinner at a Texas rest area, which i must say was probably one of the nicest rest stop I've ever been to. We busted out our George Foreman grill and plugged it into the bathroom outlet to boil water. I was amazed to find the freeze dried food we brought along with us was actually really tasty. That stop was probably the highlight of the trip. The second stop we took was at another Texas rest stop but this time to cool off the van some. We took a forty-five break from driving and took a quick power nap. By this time Nick and I were both tired, it was one in the morning and we had been driving a very long time by then. After the break we jumped back onto the road, Nick took over driving while i continued to sleep. Around four it was my turn to drive and I let Nick sleep. By the time he woke up we were almost there. After arriving in the Houston area we called up Nick's good friend Seattle and he welcomed us with a nice cold brew, exactly what we needed.

The Vehicle

This is Delilah and is what Nick and I are living in for our trip. Its quite roomy, has a full sized bed in the back, a dresser, and cruise control. What more do you really need? I'll be posting some pictures of the inside soon.
